American R&B singer, Chris Brown
gave Ghanaians a thrilling pre-Independence Day performance at the
much-anticipated Hope City Launch concert on Tuesday night. The
performance that lasted over one hour was filled with exciting dance
routines, flashing lights, and tons of dress changes. And well, lots of
controversy!
With fever pitch excitement and hundreds of
screaming fans, Chris Brown pulled a show stopping performance of his
hit songs from his impressive catalogue. But before the show could end,
Mr Breezy made sure Ghanaians would keep talking even long after he had
left.
Aside from the use of vulgar language Chris Brown offended
some sensibility when he promoted the use of marijuana. In one of his
act he asked if there were weed smokers and Ghana and suggested “if
anybody’s trippin on you smoking weed, fuck them”. He went ahead to pull
a ‘blunt’ to light it up and smoke live on stage.

More Ghanaian sensibility was
offended when Chris Brown pulled Nigerian rapper/singer, Wizkid on stage
for a repeat of a similar performance they did together in Nigeria last
December.
Some Ghanaian music enthusiasts thought it was a low
blow for Chris Brown to come to Ghana and decide to dance to ‘azonto’ by
a Nigerian artist instead of a Ghanaian, the originators of the azonto
craze.
