The Communications Director of the
Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara has demystified bruit
in the media that Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah will be shown the exit
after their impending FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan in
Kumasi.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) after the Africa Cup
of Nations staged in South Africa assured Ghanaians that the FA will
still maintain Kwesi Appiah to run the affairs of the Senior National
team, but that promise is trembling since some well-known coaches are
now lobbying to lead the Black Stars to Brazil 2014.
Speaking to
PEACE FM on the Peace Power Sports programme, Ibrahim Sannie Daara said
that the media reports are totally unfounded with no source so such
stuff must not be treated with any seriousness.
“What the FA
President said after the team returned from South Africa is final. All
the rumors going around are just rumors with no source and fabricated
ones. If those speculating it come out boldly to defend their claims, I
think that will be right. After the Nations Cup, we are all preparing
for the World Cup qualifiers,” he said.
Adding; “I promise
Ghanaians that we (the GFA) will not let any rumor sidetrack our focus
on the Sudan match. We want to beat Sudan to progress and qualify for
the World Cup. We are putting everything in place for the Sudan match so
we will not do anything to distract our preparation”.
According
to Sannie Daara, the GFA never voiced to the newly appointed sport
minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah upon his courtesy call on the FA Head
Office that the Black Stars qualification to the World Cup would be
hazardous under Kwesi Appiah’s supervision.
“The Minister’s
visit was not purposely for the World Cup, he was on a familiarization
tour, since he (Hon Elvis Afriyie Ankrah) assumed office, he has been on
a tour to socialize and listen to whatever is going on in his ministry.
He wasn’t there (FA Office) because of the World Cup or just one issue.
He was there to discuss about how Ghana Football will develop, he was
there to see how the GFA operates and to see to it how our local league
will meet the international standard.”
“…he (Sports Minister) was
there to discuss about youth and women football development. Our
immediate discussion with the Minster was how to win the Sudan match. If
you will recall, our (GFA) last press conference we said we will do
whatever we can to encourage the coach in his career. We are ready to
help the coach in any way. He (Kwesi Appiah) still remains our coach” He
said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sannie Daara has stated that the technical
team of the Black Stars will be monitoring the various Black Stars
players in Europe in order to pick the right men for the game against
Sudan. | | |
