Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan will
arrive in the country from his United Arab Emirate (UAE) base this
Thursday for the final funeral rites of his late mother Cecelia Love
Amoako.
CEO of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation Sammy Anim Addo told
Daily Guide Sports in a telephone interview yesterday that all is set
for the funeral which is expected to draw high profile sports
personalities from far and near this weekend.
He hinted that the
bereaved skipper may be joined by top officials of Al-Ain on Thursday
for the expected grand funeral which would be preceded by a wake keeping
at the deceased’s Gbawe residence in Accra.
“He is arriving on
Thursday. He will be playing for his side in their Champions League on
Wednesday and it is most likely he will be flying home with officials of
his club on Thursday,” Sammy said.
Besides coming to bid his
mother farewell, Gyan would be expected to lead the Black Stars against
their Sudanese counterparts in the 2014 World Cup qualifier next
weekend, March 24, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The deceased, 61,
was involved in a motor accident at the Accra Teacher’s Hall last
November and was pronounced dead at the Ridge Hospital, Accra shortly on
arrival. |
