Bianchi: I was a great goalscorer, but Ibrahimovic is a phenomenon

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker believes the Swede could surpass his club record for goals scored in a season, and thinks the current side is a match for most in Europe
Boca Juniors coach Carlos Bianchi has hailed Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic as "a phenomenon."

The Sweden star has excelled for les Parisiens since joining them last summer from AC Milan, scoring 28 goals in all competitions to date this season, and Bianchi believes the 31-year-old could surpass his club record of 37 goals in a single campaign set in 1977-78.

"Anything is possible, why not?" he replied to 20minutes.fr when asked whether his record was under threat.

"They are completely different stories, his and mine. He's a phenomenon, I was a great goalscorer. And he plays in a team which plays at the top, which is the best in France. As it stands, the possibility that he will beat me exists."

PSG are currently fighting for glory on three fronts, having secured a place in the Champions League quarter-finals as well as a four-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 and a last eight spot in the Coupe de France.

Bianchi believes Carlo Ancelotti's side are good enough to compete with the other remaining seven sides in Europe's elite competition, and considers Barcelona as the only side against whom his old team would struggle.

When asked if they could lift the trophy at Wembley in May, he said: "Why not? The truth is, apart from Barca, I think PSG can give any side a good game. It is only two games. PSG will not be ridiculed if they play against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich."
