The
Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has
mounted a guard at the Wagner Vehicle Management Ltd in La, where Dr
Mahamudu Bawumia’s 4WD Benz car has been hauled from Bole to.
Addressing journalists in Accra on
Friday, Chief Superintendent Samuel Tetteh, Deputy Commander of MTTU,
said after the 24-hour ultimatum given to the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
to produce the vehicle, the Unit had a call from one Eddie Appiah, who
identified himself as campaign manager of Dr Bawumia.
“So he invited me and I went there with
my team of investigators to La where I met him and he led us to a
private garage, where the car is parked. We immediately took pictures of
the car,” said CSP Tetteh.
He disclosed that they immediately mounted guard at the garage.
“We placed guard because we wanted the car to be safe and secure until it is tested,” he cited.
CSP Tetteh continued: “So the same man
led us to Dr Bawumia’s house and we wanted to see him just to take a
statement from him but we were told he was in a meeting with some
people.”
According to the MTTU Deputy Commander,
the investigators left three statement forms for Dr Bawumia, his driver,
Emmanuel and his aide, Kwabena Boadu to complete and return later.
He said they will prepare documents to
be forwarded to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to
send testing officers to the accident scene to find out the exact cause
of the accident.
Last Sunday’s accident generated
controversy after General Secretary of NPP Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie accused
the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama
of having a hand in it in order to eliminate NPP's key witness in the
Election 2012 Petition at the Supreme Court.
