GBC gets new Director General
The National Media Commission in consultation with the President of the
Republic of Ghana, in consonance with the 1992 Constitution, has
appointed Major Albert B. Don-Chebe (Rtd.) as the new Director-General
of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation for a three-year term, effective
Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
Major
Don-Chebe attended St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast for his “O Level
Certificate” and Tamale Secondary School for his “A Level Certificate”.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana, Legon; a
Masters Degree in English from the University of Manchester; UK and a
Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Affairs from the Defence Information
School, Indiana, USA. He is a lawyer and was called to the Bar in 2003.
Major Don-Chebe has had a varied career, firstly as a lecturer in
English at the University of Ghana. He served in the Ghana Armed Forces
for 15 years in the Directorate of Public Relations. Upon his voluntary
retirement in 1999 after a distinguished service, during which he
participated in five peace-keeping operations under the auspices of the
United Nations, he was appointed the Corporate Affairs Manager at Ghana
Breweries Ltd.
He later worked at the Ministry of Public Sector
Reforms in 2005 as the Communications Consultant. He became the Head of
Corporate Communication and Customer Care at Ghana Telecom and Vodafone
Ghana.
He joined the Millennium Development Authority as
Director, Community and Public Outreach in 2009. Until his appointment
as Director General of GBC, he was the Director, Corporate Planning and
Communication at the Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund
(EDAIF).
Major Don-Chebe is the current President of the
Institute of Public Relations, Ghana and a Member of the Ghana Bar
Association. He is married with three children.
