A six-member Zambian delegation led
by the Zambian Deputy Minister for Information and Broadcasting
Services, Mr Mwansa Kapeya on Thursday 16 May 2013 were hosted by
Multichoice Ghana to a lunch and a visit to the Atomic Hill Digital
Terrestrial Transmission site of GOtv Ghana Limited.
Briefing the
group on GOtv’s operations, the Managing Director of GOtv Ghana
Limited, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills highlighted the uniqueness of GOtv and
its impact on Ghana’s migration of all transmissions from analogue to
digital.
“GOtv is the only pay television service provider in the
country that uses the Digital Video Broadcast standard technology (DVB
T2) which is the most advanced technology standard available in the
market worldwide. GOtv is a perfect example of plug and play technology
at its best, with your decoder and antenna, you can set up the device
yourself. The GOtv service was specially created to make
available an affordable digital television product for all. When people
think of digital television they immediately imagine it has to be
expensive, this is not the case with GOtv, which offers great family
entertainment at affordable prices”, according to him.
On behalf
of the Zambian delegation, Mr Kapeya expressed their appreciation to
GOtv Ghana Limited, the Ministry of Information and Media Relations plus
other stakeholders in the digital migration process for giving them an
insight into Ghana’s migration process.
The Zambian delegation,
made up of regulators and journalists is in the country to learn about
Ghana’s progress in migrating from analogue to digital broadcasting as
the June 2015 deadline by the International Telecommunications Union
(ITU) on member countries approaches.
The delegation had
previously paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Information and Media
Relations, Mr. Mahama Ayariga and visited other institutions including
the National Communications Authority, National Media Commission and
National Film and Television Institution (NAFTI). |
