Blame city authorities for road accidents – MTTU

The Director for Education, Research and Training at the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Alexander Obeng has stated that road engineers and city authorities are to blame for the high rate of accidents on in Ghana.

According to ASP Alexander Obeng, city authorities are lazy and not ensuring the efficient running of transportation systems in the country.

DSP Obeng who was speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday lamented that most Ghanaians are encroaching lands allocated for road construction have gone unpunished.

“The pedestrian has no access and those accesses have been illegally expropriated by those who have their houses adjoined to the road and have constructed illegal flower beds, landscaping…”

He said there are “so many roads criminal who purport to be doing the right things but they are wrong and I sometimes forgive them because the urban road engineers, the Metropolitan and Municipal assemblies are lazy.”

DSP Obeng accused the local authorities of not “acting on their parent Act 462 of 1993 with regard to the provision of these basic amenities to ensure efficient running of transportation. They should be ashamed of themselves.”
