TROUBLE LOOMS!...No Venue And Date For Ghana Music Awards 2013? Arguably the biggest and most consistent event on the entertainment calendar in Ghana, the prestigious and yet controversial Ghana Music Awards is in limbo this year over when and where the event would take place. The organizers seem to have been hit harder by the closure of the Dome where the event has being happening for the past four years. According Peacefmonline.com investigations Charterhouse, organizers of the event are still struggling for a suitable venue for this year’s much anticipated 14th edition. The main awards night which according initial plans was supposed to come off in the second or third week in April 2013 may not happen as planned due to unavailability of a world standard venue in the whole of Ghana to accommodate the huge Ghana Music Awards crowd. This is getting a ripple effect on the other events like the Nomination Jam(Bring it to your city), the industry seminar and the Industry Awards night that are all supposed to come off before the main awards night which always climaxes the entire festival. The problem of venue is also affecting the dates for the various activities. Peacefmonline.com’s probe in the issue has revealed that organizers kept insisting on using the Dome but after several back and forth, management of the Dome also insisted on renovating the facility for its safety before it can used again. As off now, organizers have no options than to go for the 2000 capacity Accra International Conference Center main hall which seems relatively small considering the following Ghana Music Awards have gathered over the years. However, the Conference Centre which may be a wrong choice also comes with its challenges. Aside the obvious eminent overcrowding, Peacefmonline.com investigation indicates that the main awards night may to be shifted to the later part of May or perhaps farther than that because the Conference Centre has been booked in advance by other users and the closest available date will be in May. “For now there is no doubt that the awards will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre even though it is not the best for us at this point. So to some some extent the venue has been confirmed but the date is what we are still working on”, a source from Charter House told Peacefmonline.com. At the time of filing this report the organizers and sponsors had still not concluded on the date as they were contemplating on the second or third week in May but have promised to announce the date immediately they decide on it before the end of this week. Early this year, managers of the Dome, which happens to be the biggest event facility in Ghana, said they were shutting the place down for renovation. The Accra International Conference Centre has a seating capacity of about 2000 and the Dome can accommodate over 5000 people, which clearly shows that this year, Charter House will be selling tickets to just a few Ghanaians who will want to witness the music festival possibly at a higher price to reduce the number of people who would attend the show.
