Pentecost University College: Our Students Do Not Study Under Tress
The Pentecost University College (PUC) has denied media reports that its students have been compelled to study under trees and in tents due to the inadequate facilities at the school’s Sowutuom campus.
The Public Relations Affairs Officer, Emmanuel Kyei, speaking in an interview with Peacefmonline.com today(Thursday), vehemently debunked the reports, describing it as total “falsehood” put out by the Herald newspaper.
Explaining issues to Peacefmonline.com, he stated that the students have been furnished with an ultra-modern lecture hall in the shape of a dome as an extension of the facilities in the school.
A publication by the Herald newspaper on Thursday, April 04, 2013, revealed that "There is scarcity of infrastructure on the campus, hence the provision of some make-shift acoustic tents similar to the “The Dome “conference room where social events are organized at the Accra International Conference Centre. The lack of lecture facilities on campus is so prevalent that students have to fight over the few tents that have been provided by the school authorities."
The paper further disclosed that due to the inadequate facilities on the University campus amidst the poor treatment meted out to the students, some students have been enraged by the situation.
According to the report, despite the uncouth condition that the students have been subjected to, the University has sought to enrol several foreign students from neighbouring countries, specifically Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
The University was also reported to have been saddled with accommodation challenges and in an attempt to rectify the scarcity of the lecture halls on campus, erected two acoustic tents to serve as makeshift lecture halls.
However, the school authority has discounted the claims stressing that the students do not have lectures under trees, neither are there any makeshift tents for holding lectures in the school.
“We don’t have lectures under trees, there’s nothing like that here. The tent she is saying; they are like the dome structure which has air-conditioners in it…it’s not true. The tent she is talking about, they are conference tents, it’s not like a canopy; fully air-conditioned tents…And that is where we have our lectures. We have designed it into a lecture theatre.”
“They are lecture halls with lecture seats and tables. It’s not like they are on trees and we are lecturing them. It’s absolute falsehood,” Mr. Kyei stated categorically.
According to him, the claims are misleading explaining that what the University has sought to do is to expand its facilities to accommodate the students and also provide a conducive atmosphere for studies.
