Bui Power Authority begins test runs The Bui Power Authority has begun test runs on its first generation unit in readiness to join the national grid by the end of April, 2013. The first generation unit is expected to add 133.3megawatts of power to the national grid to mitigate the current electricity load shedding. An official of the Bui Power Authority (BPA) told the Daily Graphic that the test run to assess the machines running the turbine and the other electrical parts of the system began last Monday April 1, 2013. A story carried in the March 14, 2013 issues of the Daily Graphic, quoted the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BPA, Mr Jabesh Amissah-Arthur, as having given the assurance that the Bui Dam would produce its first power by the end of April. That was when President John Dramani Mahama visited the dam site to apprise himself of the work done so far. Construction of the switch yard, control building and three out of the four transmission lines that would help in the evacuation of power from the Bui Generating Station into the national grid are about 98 per cent complete. The dam is expected to produce 400 megawatts of power and the full complement would be ready by October this year. The construction of the Bui Dam started in 2007.
