This is a short story written by Peter…
You remembered the night it happened. It wasn’t a dark Friday night, there were no thunders bellowing or rain coming down in torrents. It was on the contrary, a beautiful night with the cool evening breeze sweeping through the landscape, the skies were clear, all that could be seen were tiny shining stars dotted on the skies. The moon was out too, casting a magnificent silvery light. It was one of the nights you loved dancing with your friends underneath the mango tree at the market square, but on that very night you waited for Ehis, basking under the perfection of the night and enjoying the soft caress the breeze had on you. Ogbebor was there with you, keeping you company. He was your very good friend, your childhood friend. After a few minutes you heard footsteps behind you, and then someone called your name, “Eki” it was a familiar voice, one that you had expected. You looked back and saw him standing there in the moonlight, you thought he looked like an angel, his face had the warm glow you thought it had, he was smiling, and he was alone. He was the one your friends match made you with. He sent you a note earlier in the day requesting you met him, your heart skipped a bit when you knew the note was from him. You stood up, dusted your pinafore and walked towards him, He took your hands and told you how happy he was that you made it, you smiled and asked how he was doing, he was fine. That was Ogbebor’s cue, he greeted you goodnight, waved at Ehis and walked away. The square was now empty, just the two of you, it was perfect. You spoke for hours after which he pecked you, then tried to kiss you but you politely brushed him off. He complained about how you don’t want him but it sounded awkward in your ears being that it was the first time, you explained that to him and he apologized for being too fast, you pecked him back and made for your home, he asked to escort you but you politely declined, telling him the night was beautiful and young, and you wanted to enjoy it by walking alone in the quiet. He insisted, but you insisted back so he agreed. He left for his home and you headed for yours, slowly you walked down the hill leading to the path home, it was at the foot of it you heard rustlings in the woods, you thought it was a bush rat so you brushed the thought off, but the sound came on stronger, then you began to increase your pace, but the rustling was stronger than ever, you were about to make a run for it but in that instant you saw someone spring out from the woods and pinned you down, you tried to scream and fight but he was too strong for you, you fought regardless. He painfully penetrated you, every thrust you felt brought pangs of unbearable pain, you begged and cried but he wasn’t listening, it was as though he was deaf, as though the hood and the mask shielded his humanity and his sense of hearing. He held your neck to prevent you from screaming, and then impulsively you scratched his face, revealing his mask. The face it revealed weakened you, it dulled your body to the pain and stopped every defense mechanism you had in you. Your mind raced wildly but your body couldn’t fight back, he pulled out and tried to adjust his mask, but you already saw him, the shock overwhelmed you, he stood up and ran away, knowing you had seen him and you just stood up dusted your pinafore and looked on as he ran away. You looked down at your thighs and saw quite an amount of blood rolling down, the world started to spin around you causing you to fall down, slowly you felt life ebb out of you. The last thought you had before going unconscious was how Ogbebor had ruined your life.
