Nadia Buari's New Profession...

When the number of actresses-turned-producers started rising, many expected pretty-faced Nadia Buari, popular Ghanaian actress and daughter of veteran actor, producer and musician, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, to join the league.

Persons with such expectations may be in for some disappointment because the beautiful lady who has recently been amorously linked with Nollywood ‘screen bad boy’ Jim Iyke, has decided to focus on something else.

According to a release in Accra on Wednesday, Nadia would now be dabbling in Ghana’s modeling industry, aside her acting career.

Nadia is always tagged as the most secretive actress in Ghana and it won’t be a surprise if she has secretly produced a movie and been mute about it.

“Nadia Buari, who has been spending a lot of time outside Ghana in recent times, has not only been working on new movies, her management disclosed that Nadia has employed an international talent management firm, Team Network, to set up what will be known as Ghana’s Prime Fashion House and Modeling Agency,” the release stated.

“She indicated plans are far advanced and she intends to gather individuals (male & female) with diverse potentials of modeling across the capital to specialize in the various disciplines of modeling through months of intense training and grooming.

“She also indicated that participation forms are available at Photo Store in Accra Mall and Photo Club in Marina Mall for two weeks.”

According to our unimpeachable sources, Mensah, who is currently without a club, is being closely monitored by the Kwasi Appiah-led technical team and is seen as a short term solution to problems in central defence.

Footy-ghana.com also understands that Kingson is under consideration due to concerns over Fatau Dauda’s relative inactivity at club level and the fact that Kingson himself has returned to competitive club action after 18 months out.

Footy-ghana.com has learn that both players, who represented Ghana at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, are very close to securing places in Ghana’s squad for the final World Cup qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Striker Siedu Bancey’s first half striker after 30 minutes gave Kotoko a 1-0 win over Hearts on Sunday.

I'm Not Having Sex With My Boss - Actor Eddie Nartey

Ghanaian actor Eddie Nartey is in the news again over reports that he is ‘bonking’ his new manager, the sexy sassy Bianca Thelma Briandt.

The speculations of Eddie bonking his manager has hit media circles almost a year after reports that his ex-lover had stabbed him after she caught him in bed with a different lady.

However, Eddie Nartey, ‘as expected’ has sworn he had nothing amorous to do with Bianca, who he described as his manager, business partner, distant family member and a sister.

“This came to me as a surprise. First and foremost, apart from her being my manager and my business, she is like a sister to me. Her sister is like a daughter to me and her mother is like my mother. I call her, we talk so she is like a sister to me but she is my business partner,” he told 'News-One' in an exclusive interview yesterday.

According to him, they were both working on an upcoming TV programme dubbed ‘Family Fun Time’ and as result, they always hang out together while working on the project. They also attend shows together and that could be the reason people are suspecting they are clandestinely in love.

“Thanks be to God, I have set up EN Entertainment and Bianca is on board. We are doing other projects together. We are coming out with a family fun game show called Family Fun Time being hosted by Kofi Adjorlolo and Sheila Boakyi Dankwah. We are currently editing it. So because of the project we are working on, we are always together. When I take a picture, she is part of it and when she takes a picture, I’m part of it. When we go to places, people see us together, and that could be the reason people think we are dating. But I don’t know where this dating thing is coming from,” Eddie Nartey added.

Eddie’s best pal and fellow actor, Prince David Osei and YFM’s Caroline Sampson are two people who, to a large extent, confirmed Eddie and Bianca relationship publicly.

Prince David commented on one of Eddie’s numerous instagram photos with Bianca, saying, “Eddie and Bianca get married period …lmao.”

But Eddie said he was shocked Prince David has gone to that extent.

“Listen! It is not just Prince David, Famous Atitsogbe and others also called me. But it is not true. We are just business partners. But Prince David shocked me. Prince paaaa. I am very single. I am not dating anybody. I told you I am maintaining myself for my wife in the near future,” Eddie further denied.

The actor was last year allegedly stabbed by his estranged lover Miss Abali after she found him in bed with another woman. The incident took place not long after he told NEWS-ONE he was a virgin. Meanwhile, the identity of the second lady he was caught with is still not known.

Kwaku Ananse to make debut @ London Film Festival

AdomaakwekuananseAkosua Adoma Owusu’s film, Kwaku Ananse, which has won numerous international awards, is making its UK debut at the 57th BFI London Film Festival.

Kwaku Ananse is one of four short films from Focus Features Africa First Program being shown at the festival this year.

Kwaku Ananse has received high praise and strong support around the world. It was included in the French Film Academy’s Golden Nights Panorama as part of the World’s Best Short Films category, and also received recognition at the Berlinale, Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals.

At its North American debut in Toronto, Kwaku Ananse was described as “a spellbinding, semi- autobiographical interpretation of a traditional Ghanaian folktale in which the contemporary collides with the mythological in both content and form.”

Owusu says she is “very humbled to be invited back” to the London Film Festival, and she’s excited to share her film with London audiences. Her short film Me Broni Ba (My White Baby) – a lyrical portrait of hair salons in Ghana – premiered at the Festival in 2009 and received recognition from several film festivals that same year.

Kwaku Ananse was produced by Lisa Cortes (Oscar-Nominated, Precious) and Julio Chavezmontes (Sundance New Frontier, Halley), and was created with the support of Focus Features Africa First, Art Matters and the Sarah Jacobson Film Grant.

After its London showing, Owusu plans to take Kwaku Ananse for its second showing in Ghana, where her company – Obibini Pictures – will work to reopen one of Ghana’s oldest Cinemas and use it for an alternative creative art, film and music space.

Akosua Adoma Owusu is also working on her feature film debut, Black Sunshine, which recently won the ARTE International Prize at Durban FilmMart and funding support by The Creative Capital Foundation.

UN Applauds Ghana’s Democracy

The United Nations (UN) on the occasion of the commemoration of International Day of Democracy, which falls on September 15, has lauded Ghana’ democracy and urges efforts to reduce apathy.

The UN System in the country extends felicitations to the government and people of Ghana for upholding and sustaining democracy, particularly in the past year.

Mr Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary General in a statement to commemorate the day, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday, observed that: “Despite advances in civic engagement, apathy has become democracy’s most insidious enemy in a growing number of societies.”

He further proposed that apathy could be overcome through inclusive participation since “it prepares communities, societies and entire countries to address opposing points of view, forge compromises and solutions, and engage in constructive criticism and deliberations.”

“It is in light of this that the UN System commends the people of Ghana for their enthusiasm and active engagement in their electoral process.

“In Africa, Ghana serves as a beacon of democracy as the country has enjoyed increasingly stable and deepening democratic governance over the last two decades.

“Despite these gains, key democratic challenges, which include clarifying roles between and among the arms of government and governance institutions, increasing resources for key government and independent government institutions, and deepening opportunities for effective citizen’s engagement.

“Also increasing the participation of women, youth and other marginalized groups in decision-making processes; strengthening capacity at local governance levels; and reducing the perception of corruption in the public sector,” he stated.

Mr Ban noted that on this International Day of Democracy themed “Strengthening Voices for Democracy” the UN urges leaders to “hear, respect and respond appropriately to the voices of the people,” and for citizens to “use their voice to not only take control of their destiny, but to translate their desires and the desires of others into a better future for all.” Adding that in so doing, there is an assurance that Ghana’s democratic growth would be sustained.

The UN General Assembly sets aside September 15, each year to be observed as the International Day of Democracy to encourage governments to strengthen national programmes devoted to the promotion and consolidation of democracy.

The Day is marked to promote free expression of the will of people to determine their own political, economic, social and cultural systems and their full participation in all aspects of their lives.
