Confidence Haugen Wins Day One of Konfidence Fashion Logo Court Case

Confidence Haugen Confidence Haugen has successfully set aside an Accra Fast Track High Court order on her to stop using the logo she is currently using to market her talk-of-town ‘Konfidence’ fashion designs, a high-class designer collection of shoes, bags and fashion accessories. The High Court, presided over by Justice Cecilia H Sowah, yesterday Thursday June 6, agreed that it actually erred in the May 23 restraining order it placed on Confidence to stop using her ‘K’ and butterfly logo and should therefore close her shop with immediate effect. The restraining order was granted after internationally recognized Africa/UK based fashion consultant, Makeba Boateng, had told the courts that the logo which was a ‘K’ and a butterfly was hers. Makeba Boateng owns the internationally recognized Keba Clothing and insists her ‘K’ logo with the butterfly had been officially acknowledged by the Registrar General’s Department as being first-in-time to initiate the process to register the logo under Ghana’s trademark laws. But at yesterday’s sitting, Counsel for Confidence, Bobby Banson of Minkah-Premo & Co, told the Courts that copyright and intellectual property cases are heard by a Commercial Court and not a Fast Track Court and therefore the Fast Track High Court would have erred in granting the May 23 interim restraining order. Arts writer Ernest Dela Aglanu of myjoyonline reported Lawyer Bobby Banson had told him that “the Fast Track High Court does not have the jurisdiction” for cases involving intellectual property. The court, after hearing the argument of the counsel for Confidence Haugen, ordered Counsel for Makeba Boateng, Gaisie Zwennes Hughes & Co, to re-file the case in the appropriate court which is the Commercial Court. Impliedly, there is no current case standing against Confidence and she therefore has the freedom to open her shop and resume operations in full swing. In the first week, Beverly from Nigeria won HoH. Last week, Selly from Ghana took over from the sexy lingerie model. This week, Selly beat everyone to the Head of House title again, after holding off stiff competition from a very determined Cleo. Sulu, Bassey, Neil, ONeal, LK4 and Biguesas were all disqualified less than 30 minutes into the Task after failing to keep their arms extended over their heads, as per the Task brief. That left the competition wide open for the determined girls to claim a well-deserved victory. After over two hours, Selly held on while her competitors fell by the wayside. When Cleo was disqualified for dodgy arm extension, Selly couldn't believe her luck. She screamed as loud as she could and hugged everyone within reach. Cleo didn't look too disappointed at her loss though. All the Zambian could talk about was the Arena, where she will see her man, Hakeem for the first time since he was poached from the Ruby House. Nigeria's Beverly was missing in action after she was banished from participating in the challenge, courtesy of the Power of No twist. The Nigerian decided to soak up the sun in a corner of the garden, where she could keep her eye on her fellow Housemates. According to Ebi, she is comfortable with her relationship with Jimmy. “He doesn't get in my space. He understands my work and allows me to give attention to others. I also have to allow him do his job which is partying every day,” she said.

Rapist Buried Alive In Victim’s Grave

A SUSPECTED sex murderer was buried alive in his victim's grave after being seized by enraged villagers. Around 200 mourners grabbed Santos Ramos at the funeral of the woman he was accused of raping and killing. They then dragged him to the burial spot of Leandra Janco in central Bolivia, and dumped him into the grave alongside her. Police had identified 17-year-old Ramos as the possible culprit in the attack in a Quechua community near the municipality of Colquechaca. Chief local prosecutor, Jose Luis Barrios, said residents blocked the road to the community, preventing police from reaching it and stopping their brutal retaliation. A local radio reporter said Ramos was tied up at the woman’s funeral. Mourners then threw the teenager into the open grave, placed the woman’s coffin in it and filled the grave with earth. Colquechaca is a town of 5,000 inhabitants located 207 miles southeast of Bolivia’s capital, La Paz. Lynchings are said to be rare in the South American country, however just days before Ramos' death, two suspected murderers were also dealt with by mob justice. Nelson Mandela In ‘Serious Condition’ In Hospital

FRAIL former South African president Nelson Mandela has been taken to hospital in a "serious but stable condition". The 94-year-old anti-apartheid icon has his family at his bedside after suffering a recurrence of a lung condition. A government spokesman told a South African news channel today his situation was "serious this time". South Africa's first black president has been ill for several days but he is said to be conscious and breathing on his own. Spokesman Mac Maharaj said: “During the past few days former President Nelson Mandela has had a recurrence of a lung infection. “At about 1.30am his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to a Pretoria hospital. He remains in a serious but stable condition. “The former president is receiving expert medical care and doctors are doing everything possible to make him better and comfortable. “President Jacob Zuma, on behalf of the government and the nation, wishes Madiba (his Xhosa tribal name) a speedy recovery.” The anti-apartheid fighter became president in South Africa’s all-race elections in 1994. His health has been failing in recent years. Mr Maharaj said Mandela first developed his lung condition many years ago when he was incarcerated in prison and that he needs treatment from time to time. Mandela is admitted to hospital “as necessary” to give him the best opportunity to recover. Mr Maharaj added: “He has been in good spirits. He is a fighter and he will be with us as long as he is there fighting.” Prime Minister David Cameron gave his support to Mandela on Twitter. Okuraseni Samuel Punches TV3.

Ghanaian musician Okuraseni Samuel of TV3’s ‘Mentor 1’ fame has told Flex newspaper that TV3 has been ungrateful to Doris, a former contestant of the maiden edition of their talent discovery programme, Mentor, when she passed away few weeks ago.

“I am really disappointed in TV3 because I think when they bring the reality shows like mentor and others, their main motive is to make the money and that is all because Doris died some few weeks ago and apart from saying it in the news bulletin, nothing else was done and now Doris has been laid to rest” he lamented.
 
Okuraseni continued that they could even have observed a minute silence for her at the launch of ‘Mentor VII’ a fortnight ago.
  
“Even if Doris has done nothing for you, she was on your reality show and you benefitted from her. What pains me most is that she died after some weeks of delivery. Isn’t this a pity for TV3 and the ‘Mentor Crew’ to show love or even show their last respect to the girl, is that they way to hate? You hate somebody to the extent that you even went ahead to launch ‘Mentor VII’? If nothing at all, on the day of the launch just one minute of silence for her will even make her soul happy. You even have archives of her performances in your library so why not even edit her part and play it on air for her fans and your viewers too,” he continued.
  
He also said it was not right for the organizers to have used Guru as a surprise guest for ‘Mentor VII.’ “Though Guru is my brother he shouldn’t have been used as a guest. Because it was a Mentor programme, they needed to go in for some of the old mentor contestants, who have at least had that experience before” he said.
